# Carbon footprint account exclusive functionalities

In order for a carbon footprint account to reduce its carbon footprint the account owner must use the `retire_carbon_credits(batch_hash, amount_to_retire)` functionality. This functionality allows for the carbon footprint account to specify which carbon credit batch credits it wants to use and how many to use in order to decrease its carbon footprint.
